Nautical
Charts
The bathymetry
of the North Pacific Ocean as shown on some very interesting nautical
charts, features deep sea basins and trenches such as the Northwest
Pacific Basin (with depths over -10,500 m) to the south of the Kamchatka
Peninsula, and the Aleutian Trench (with depths over -8,000 m) just
south of the Aleutian Islands. Shallower regions are found along
the continental shelves and the marginal seas. Nautical charts are
produced for marine navigation. They contain information on all
navigational aids, such as buoys and beacons, lighthouses, radio
and radar stations, shipping channels, restricted areas. Some charts
are issued with Loran-C plotting grid s or great circle sailing
tracks. Water depths are recorded as soundings, in meters, feet
or fathoms.
